Theatre Circle

For over 60 years the Indiana University Department of Theatre and Drama has provided one of the nations premier theatre programs. Its students have gone on to become some of the finest theatre artists, scholars, and teachers in the world. The lives of thousands of others have been illumined and enriched by the study and practice of theatre in the Department.

Theatre Circle was founded in 1978 to promote and encourage the study and practice of theatre arts in the IU Department of Theatre and Drama and to promote an awareness of theatre throughout the community and public at large.

Theatre Circle members enjoy a variety of benefits, including:

  • pre-show lectures by distinguished faculty and visitors
  • dinners featuring talks and visual presentations by production directors and designers
  • 7-8 issues of Theatre Circle Insights and 8 play programs mailed prior to each production opening
  • special events including Meet the Playwrights, Season Announcement Party, and Annual Banquet
  • chartered excursions to out-of-town professional productions
  • invitations to Departmental lectures and programs
  • advance notice of seasons playbill
  • recognition in all printed production programs

Your Theatre Circle contribution benefits the IU Department of Theatre and Drama by:

  • providing student scholarships and awards
  • assisting in bringing outstanding professional
  • guest artists and scholars to work with theatre students in class and on productions
  • assisting in recruiting the nations best graduate and undergraduate students
  • enabling students to travel to professional conferences to deliver their scholarly papers and exhibit their designs
  • underwriting printing of theatre programs, including Braille and large print
  • supporting Departmental advertising in professional journals and broadcast media
  • providing audio description of each production for visually impaired patrons
  • funding special projects including Lee Norvelle Theatre and Drama Center banners,
  • Indiana Repertory Theatre internships, and hospitality events for students

The Indiana University Department of Theatre and Drama, with its distinguished faculty and staff, has continually maintained the highest of academic and production standards. Business and Corporate contribution levels are double the amount of individual contributions. Annual memorial gifts may be made at all levels. A memorial gift in perpetuity may be made at the $1,000.00 level. Payroll deduction is available to IU employees.
